and people slate this band, VNV Nation at Infest 2011

Post by primary » Wed Aug 31, 2011 3:02 pm

A few days after the tragic death of Sophie VNV Nation headlined Infest and bought it to the attention of many, many people and dedicated the song illusion to her.

Lasts weekend they, again headlining, dedicated the same song and spoke about this (the vid misses out most of what I just typed however it still strikes a chord) and the difficulties of being 'weird'

This forum and event has slated VNV Nation in the past...

I think your slightly overstating the issue to say this 'forum' and the 'event' (which I assume you mean WGW), have slated this group.

There may of been one or two forum members state they did not like this particular band or some other reason for your statement, however, this forum has hundreds of members and the event is attended by thousands, so its a bit unfair to 'lable' them all with the same opinion, after all thats precisely the message that the Foundation that developed from Sophies tragedy attempts to get across, we ARE ALL different, with differing tastes, but we try to be tollerant and 'respect' alternative views, lifestyles, opinions etc etc.

I for one have never 'slated' this band, I dont know enough about them to express an opinion, I have listened to your link though, its a good song and an admirable speech by the singer and the comments underneath speak nicely of the message it put across.

Thanks for sharing it primary

Were I feeling churlish I'd point out that a simple search of the forum shows a mere 58 posts mentioning this band, very few of which could be said to be in any way "slating" them. That said, there are members here (myself included) who simply don't like bleep/cyber/EBM/untiss-untiss type stuff. I'm not entirely sure that I see the point of your double-posting a fairly snide message that does little more than complain about a none-existent animosity towards a band that a lot of us simply don't care about.

Their promotion of SOPHIE's message is admirable. That doesn't mean that I have to like their music.

I cant really add anything to this that hasn't already been said, I don't like the band but there's is hardly the only song to be dedicated to Sophies memory, in fact Uninvited Guest and Autumn Cannibals specifically wrote tracks for the CD released to raise funds for the foundation and gave them away for free. Apart from trading off a memory to make themselves look good, anyone know what VNV have done?

I don't like them, along with a few others, and I'm sure we're way outnumbered by people that like them, but is that any reason to spam a forum?

Bono also supports the IRA :chop:

BUT this is pretty much what I was going for in the other (identical) thread.

It was something my dad always maintained. He gives money to them to help support the "cause"

I don't knw VNV, but I think it's a nice thing for them to do. And it doesn't hurt the campaign by raising awareness, whatever their motives were.
There's a lot of negativity in this topic, which is quite sad.
I'm not respectable, and never sensible - I've been incredible, so damned irascible..
..and I like the things I do, so hooray for me.
