Black Roses: The Killing of Sophie Lancaster

Post by carolina-moon » Fri Sep 14, 2012 7:22 pm

This is a play that's currently playing at The Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester until the end of September. Poetry by Simon Armitage and words by Sylvia Lancaster (played by Julie Hesmondhalgh)

I'd love to go, but unfortunately, funds won't allow (as usual) but I'm sure it'll be a powerful and emotional couple of hours. Schools should make a point of taking teenage kids to see it. A bit of extracurricular education on 'live and let live' wouldn't do them any harm at all.

Having listened to the Radio 4 play I'm not sure I could watch it in public, I found it that heartbreaking. Hats off to those bringing it to the stage, it made the Guardian listings this weekend.

The poetry is superb and you can now buy it - Simon Armitage finally released it in August this year, dedicated to Sophie.
Don't call me baby.
