That is very sad. How difficult would it have been to look at the dates and wait a week before saying anything. Well maybe they will read the article and apologise.

This is utterly disgusting. As has been said before, the very fact that they have dared to appeal after such an indecently short length of time since their convictions is merely further evidence of their total lack of remorse and comprehension of the severity of their crimes. In a saner world this would taken as grounds for increasing their sentences.

Can you believe it! The family must be going through hell. It's this sort of thing that leaves people hardened and ebittered - how can that help?

A year a go today I was at Hope Hospital, saying my goodbyes before Sophie's life-support was to be turned off.

Rob's life has been torn apart by what they did to him and Sophie.

These five "convicts" haven't even spent one whole year in prison and already they're looking to shorten their sentences.

I agree with Captain M – I don't believe they have any remorse for what they have done or that they have a thought for how their actions have impacted on other people's lives.

It's all about how to make their own lives easier. I have absolutely no sympathy for them, and I just hope the board that assesses the appeals feels the same way as the rest of us.

Yes i hope so too. If they have no remorse for their crimes now they never will and they wont change either. Animals like that need to be kept off the streets.

Believe it or not, a friend from Manchester has already phoned me today to moan about this. How bloody stupid is the criminal justice system in this country? There should be no appeal. The appeals of the victims went unheard at the time, I believe. :x

Is there anything we can do, GC? When the court case was on it was possible to write to the judge. Is there anything similar we can do now?

I don't think there is, this time Spooky. Although, I think that all the letters that were sent before sentencing will be in the file that will put before the board. I think that was part of the reason for asking people to write at the time.

Obviously, if I hear anything to the contrary I'll let everyone know.

Thanks for asking

I think we should write. I think we should petition the court again, despite any negative thoughts we might have. It has to be worth a try, for the simple fact we'd be kicking ourselves if we failed to act and there was a chance it might do some good.

Fucking hell - I really hoped you would be able to have a nice anniversary this year, without this kind of tactless 'slap in the face'. I was thinking of you this week and now I'm just gutted to find this. Honestly, it makes me want to contact people of ill repute and have something DONE about these worthless cretins, in the prison boiler room...

I honestly didn't think the appeal would really come this far. Nevertheless, it's always been in the back of my mind and I've been ready for it. But for it to come out with such bad timing, has the hairs on the back of my neck standing up with fury!

Something has to be done. We must at least try.

What is more, I believe they should be given LONGER sentences, just for asking... This is pure evidence of zero remorse and in a world where everything is correct, the key would be thrown away. No rehabilitation of these individuals can undo all the harm they did that night. This is no time for compromise. I believe that intense protest, from the Gothic Community as a whole, is most definitely in order.

Well said. What would be most effective inidvidual letters or a petition? How would such a petition be worded?

and/Or:
Find out when and where it is, stand outside and protest against it.
Unfortunately, they have the right to appeal. However, I hope the Judge(s) see that they have no remorse and lengthen their sentences. I think it is possible for their sentences to be lengthened.
How can their barristers say that they think the sentences are too long? They killed an innocent woman and badly injured an innocent man. I know the barrister is there only because they have to be (and getting paid for it), but I don't know how they must feel knowing they are as guilty as a child being caught with his hand in the biscuit barrel.

Thats also a good idea but unfortunatly i dont think sufficient numbers would be able to make it. Wheras if everyone could sign something and get huge numbers oh i dunno i had a point thier but i've lost it.
