Just seen this bullitin posted by a friend on myspace, hope you guys don't mind me posting it..

www.briandeneke.org
BRING DOWN HATE CRIMES.

Brian Deneke was murdered on December 12, 1997 -- He was 19 years old.

This is a site in memory of Brian Deneke. Please check this out and actually read it. If your reading this and realize how tragic and unfair Brians story is, please spread the word and get the world to hear his story.

Brian did not die because he deserved to. Brian did not die because he asked to. Brian died because he was different. He was a nonconformist. He was an Individualist. He was a free spirit. Brian was also a thoughtful and caring young man, a good son, a good friend. His life was full of promise. His murder deprived this community of someone who had already begun to make a difference to it and no doubt would have made an even greater difference in the future. Brian Deneke is gone. His death has left a divided city, a shocked city, a hurt city in its wake. It has also left us a memory of who Brian was and what he stood for. That memory can serve either a negative purpose or a positive one.

This happened nearly 10 years ago, but seems to me quite a similar crime

Yes, Toni... I watch a lot of Crime Investigation programming on cable TV. Brians story stuck in our minds, when it was covered in one the documentaries. It was the first instance in many years, where being a punk rocker or alternative led directly to someone's death. The perpetrators were very hard to pin down, because the way the courts favoured the college sports achievments and popularity of the students who killed him. I would certainly mention Brian, when talking about Sophie Lancaster, even though this happened on the other side of he world - because it's one of those stories that we don't hear of very often. We've had such an amazing response from people in America. Some of Joolz's friends have heard about this, and tried to sign our petition, but alas, I believe they are not able to be included on a British petition.

OK, just totalled it so far, I've got £430 in the jar in my house, and on top of that is the £200 from Purpleabsinthe and the 230 euros (about £160) from Tasha, so that's about £790!

Halfway and we haven't even got to Whitby yet!

There are collections this weekend at Dr Fells and Dr Fells live, so that will take us well over halfway, and we still have other stuff going on that will bring in more.

I'm stunned.

Apart from the custom made 'goth bear' that we have to raffle at Sexy Sunday I've just been given a one off 'batpack' - a bit like a back pack, but it's a bat! So that's two unique prizes to raise even more cash

Kindly hand made and donated by: http://www.myspace.com/diamantequeen

Wow, just goes to show what a community the Goth culture can be, eh?

I've been given a sort of promotion at work but - honestly - don't know what my pay rise is going to be. When I find out at the end of the month, I'll bung a bit of an extra donation in to your Paypal account, Oldgoth, in celebration :D
