Bry@nXst, that's very kind of you to ask - I think it'd just be great if you could just point people in the right direction, in your article, to the petition website and also the SOPHIE Campaign myspace address.

By all means make mention that Rob and the rest of the Maltby family signed the petition at it's beginning and are right behind what it stands for.

kindest regards
Nic x

Righto Nic,
I will take a look at the SOPHIE space and try to put something together worthy of the cause, when it's up i will post a link here.

just had a look at thwe petition and can say am quite please with the 2,434 signatures already on there, however, just wondering how many are needed for this to actually be looked at by the right people?

Is there any way, other than signing it, that we can get this pushed further?

Have any MP's looked at it? Signed it even?

Is it doing its job as we speak or are we waiting on something for this to be moved along?

It's reached enough to get looked at, but I still think we could do more to spread the word further and get more signatures...

Varney, I have finally read and signed the petitiion.
Forgive me for taking so long to do it; but at least it has my permanent address reather than my temporary ones. At least I signed before the deadline.
On second thought if I had signed it earlier could I have gotten away with 3 signatures as long as they were at different postal addresses?
I'll do my best to pass it along.

That's okay, Marion - better late than never.

I'm still feeling a bit phased. I've just had the BBC in my house, this afternoon, interviewing me about the petition. I never thought it would make those kinds of headlines when I wrote it, so that was a bit of a shock.

A nice shock though. TV or radio?

Both. It's covering various aspects of the trial next week for regional and national news programs; in my case, the petition's background story. I'm told they also distribute footage to other networks, such as ITN, Sky etc, to minimize the amount of interviews. So in effect, Sylvia and her family don't have to face any more reporters than necessary.

Topdog that is brilliant, hopefully it will push the cause some more, hitting a larger audience. When is the start date for the trial i presume it is to coincide with that.

Far as I know, Monday. I've got the news reporter's number, I'll try and get the BBC to come to the bench opening ceremony, too... He did express an interest in possibly covering that, as well (if everyone else is okay with that) Martin...?

Sorry, just seen this. Fine by me, I think it's important we get this covered by the media.

Bizarre launches anti-bullying and anti-discrimination campaign - join up now!

We’re sure you’ve all read about the current murder trial of Sophie Lancaster, the girl kicked to death in Lancashire last year.

It’s something that’s affected us deeply at Bizarre. Our readers pride themselves on being different and not conforming to society’s norms.

Whether you consider yourself a goth, a metaller, a rockabllly, an emo kid, a retro head, a fetish fan, or whether you’ve got body mods or tattoos, at some point in your life you’re likely to have been verbally or physically abused for the way you look.

You may have had an employer discriminating against you, someone shouting at you in the street, or suffered more serious physical abuse.

And it’s just not on. We don’t want to take it any more. And we don’t want you to take it any more.

We’ve set up an online forum where you can share your experiences, show solidarity, offload your worries, and maybe come up with ideas for strategies to help stop the hate.
