That you surround, all around
And you man, will always point
Your fishes, at me

Sisters of mercy, The Cure, The Mission, siouxsie and the banshees have some quite uplifting songs erm... The birthday massacre ? jack off jill ? zeitgeist zero ? tho were moving away from trad goth musik now I fear

ooh Voltaire usually puts a smile on my face with some of his songs and if none of the above amuses you then sod it all and put Emillie Autmns cover of Gloomy Sunday on :P

Jack Off Jill. God I just love this band. Now this band are fun!!

Nothing particularly miserable about most of the first wave goth (batcave). Specimen were more glam than glum and Sex fiend were hilarious.
I always thought goth was meant to be tongue in cheek anyway. It owes more to Carry on screaming than Hammer horrors IMHO.

Seconded in particular Voltaire - Cantina / Sexy Data Tango / Death Death Devil Devil Devil Evil Evil Evil songs.

I'll also add Mr Joe Black into the mix , his version of "You are my sunshine" always raises a smile as does his song "Dogging"
Miranda Hart and Patricia Hodge to play Brenda and Effie

Like a few have said Voltaire and the Scarey B's always cheers me up as does The Cure esp Love Cats and Lullaby.
Placebo's Pure Morning, Projcket's Obsession/ Animotion's Obsession, The Beautiful Deadly Children's Every Night is Halloween and , Daleks, and BatSpit, Lesbien Bed Death's Goth Girls Are Easy, Uninvited Guest's Strange Gothic Romance.
I'm sure I'll remember more.
